A former mayor and mainstay of Yorkton’s business community has passed away.

In a post on its Facebook page, the City of Yorkton announced that Allan Bailey, who served as mayor from 1968 to 1976, died Tuesday, January 3rd, at the age of 90.

Bailey purchased what became Bailey’s Funeral Home, along with Yorkton Memorial Gardens, in 1963, before expanding operations to include funeral chapels in Ituna in 1964, and Melville in 1983.

Bailey was named an honourary life member of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce in 2013.
