Charges laid in relation to attempted break-in to a home on Cowessess First Nation

A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection to a report of an attempted break-in of a home on the Cowessess First Nation on Saturday (Jan. 7).

Broadview RCMP allege the man, who was reported to a have a firearm with him, uttered threats and left the area in a truck, which was later located stuck in a ditch.

The suspect was arrested without incident at Cowessess, after a search by Broadview Mounties, officers from neighbouring detachments, the Saskatchewan RCMP’s Police Dog Services and Critical Incident Response Team and Regina Police Service Air Services.

Austin Bellegarde, of the community of Shesheep (part of Zagime Anishinabek First Nation), was scheduled to appear in Yorkton Provincial Court today (Mon) on one count each of Careless Use of a Firearm, Carry a Weapon for a Purpose Dangerous to the Public, Taking a Motor Vehicle Without Consent, and Mischief under $5-thousand.
