Yorkton Chamber of Commerce meet with the Saskatchewan MP Caucus

The Yorkton Chamber of Commerce had an opportunity to meet with the Saskatchewan MP Caucus.

Executive Director of the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce, Juanita Polegi, says the Caucus invited the Chamber to a meeting this morning (Mon). Joining Polegi at the meeting, as representation for the Chamber, was Director and Policy committee member Vanessa Andres.

Polegi says they brought forward four major issues, the Chamber believes, the Yorkton business community is facing the most – the carbon tax, interest rates, the value of the Canadian dollar and the CEBA loan repayments for some businesses.

She adds that the Caucus was very receptive of the chamber’s presentation, and fielded questions from the MP Caucus afterward.

One of the questions was about the availability of labour. According to a news release from the Chamber, Andres, who is a business owner, “relayed her story about trying to find both skilled and unskilled labour.”

“We have been successful at employee retention but employee recruitment has often been a challenge,” said Andres in the news release, adding many other businesses are facing the same challenge.

Polegi says that the Caucus was very receptive of the Chamber’s presentation.
