Trial wraps up for Carlyle RCMP officer facing assault charge

A Carlyle RCMP officer, charged following an on-duty incident in October of 2020, will learn his fate in April.

Saskatchewan RCMP laid a charge of Assault with a Weapon against Constable Dani Zaya, following an investigation into a complaint made to the Carlyle RCMP Detachment last year.

On October 31, 2020, Carlyle RCMP officers stopped a vehicle in Arcola, where a man in the vehicle was arrested by Constable Zaya, who allegedly used pepper spray during his interaction with the man.

A complaint was made in November of 2020, and Zaya was arrested in June of 2021, and released on conditions.

Zaya’s trial concluded in Carlyle yesterday (THURS), with the judge adjourning the matter to April 11th for decision.
