A Brandon man has been charged in connection to a death on the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation, seven years ago.

On January 4th, 2016, Virden RCMP received a report of a two-month female infant in medical distress at a home on the reserve.

She was taken to hospital where she died from her injuries, and police determined the death to be a homicide.

After new information came to light in April of 2022, yesterday officers charged 32-year-old Kiefer Mecas of Brandon with Manslaughter.

He was released for a court appearance scheduled on March 6th in Brandon.
