Approval for the development permit application of a salvage yard in Yorkton has hit a snag.
The location of the proposed salvage yard is 85 York Road West, and it has received opposition from nearby residents.
A letter submitted to the City, from a couple who live on Maple Avenue, questions why City Council would entertain the idea, when in previous years has “approved Bylaws that protect homeowners from living next to someone who allows their property to become a junk yard.”
“Our property values will plummet as no one is going to want to buy a home that is across the street from a Junk Yard. We know we certainly don’t want to live next to one.” they added in the letter, which ended with a question to City Council if they would want to live near a junk yard.
“They’re very valid, this is going to affect their neighbourhood.” Yorkton Mayor Mitch Hippsley said of opposition from nearby residents.
Hippsley notes that the matter is being deferred to the Planning and Infrastructure Commission.
“These people get more insight [and] they make recommendations that we want to hear before we make any decision.” Hipplsey said of the Commission.
