Yorkton-Melville M.P. introduces private member’s bill in House of Commons

The Conservative Member of Parliament for the Yorkton-Melville riding, introduced a private member’s bill in the House of Commons yesterday (Tues).

In a news release, Cathay Wagantall says the “Violence Against Pregnant Women Act” would “go a long way in addressing violence against most vulnerable people in our society: pregnant women and the children they are carrying to term.”

Also known as Bill C-311, it would add two new aggravating factors to the Criminal Code – knowingly assaulting a pregnant woman and causing physical or emotional harm to a pregnant woman.

This isn’t the first time Wagantall has focused on this issue, as she previously introduced a bill called “Cassie and Molly’s Law” back in 2016, which was defeated.
