Columbia Park Development Project on hold for now

A project in Yorkton is being put on the back burner for the time being.

Councilor Quinn Haider put forward a motion to put the Columbia Park Development project on hold for the time being, mainly due to inflation.

“It was introduced a couple years back and I was one of the people who voted in favour, I was very excited about it, however the economy is a little bit different now, and family finances are quite a bit different now,” Haider explained. “It’s been on my mind for quite a while to take a closer look at this and decide [if this] is a project we really need right now or can this one maybe wait.”

He also said that other recreation projects may take priority over Columbia Park.

The City’s Master Recreation Plan is due to be unveiled in the spring, where city council will decide the next steps for the development of Columbia Park.

“We do have a Council that’s definitely interested in amenities for our city, and I know that things will still happen, but I think we really owe it to our taxpayers to take a look at every dollar that we spend these days.” said Haider.
