Chief of the Cowessess First Nation is not seeking another term

With an election coming up this April, the Chief of the Cowessess First Nation is not seeking another term.

Chief Cadmus Delorme, who had been in the role for 7 years, made the announcement yesterday (Thurs) on Facebook, saying it wasn’t an easy decision.

Chief Delorme highlighted, during his tenure, the creation of Cowessess Ventures, a business organization to create and enhance renewable energy projects, urban development, among other things, and bolstering agriculture there to farming 65-hundred acres.

Under his leadership, he signed an agreement with the provincial and federal governments that gave Cowessess control over child and family services in the community, with the protection of language and culture. In 2021, Cowessess announced the discovery of 751 suspected graves near the former Marieval Indian Residential School.
