A public hearing in the Town of Swan River is scheduled for tonight (Thurs) at 7:30 p.m.
The hearing is about upgrades to the Centennial Arena at an anticipated cost of $7.5-million. The Public Notice on the Town’s website notes the work would include the following: ice slab replacement and integration, including dasher board system replacement; building perimeter regrading; roofing and cladding replacement; HVAC and lighting upgrades; and structural, refrigeration and architectural repairs/upgrades.
Town Council is proposing to borrow $2.7-million over a 20-year term at an interest rate of 7 percent. They plan to increase the mill rate to 1.072 to pay for the loan; the annual payment is approximately $254,861.
The notice also breaks down where the funding would come from: Building Sustainable Communities Program – $300,000; Arts, Culture and Sport in Community Fund – $3,750,000; Canada Community Building Fund – $500,000; and Community Fundraising Campaign – $250,000.
