SGI with tips on preventing ice dams and water damage from your roof

Temperatures have been up-and-down this week, causing the snow to melt during the day then freezing at night.

This can cause ice dams on your roof, and at-risk of water damage, so SGI is raising awareness on how to prevent it before it leads to an expensive roof repair.

One simple way is removing snow from the roof by using a roof rake, a tool that consists of a snow rake with a long, extendable pole. It’s recommended to remove snow at least 6 feet from the eaves.

Other ways to prevent damage include making sure you have good ventilation in the attic, proper insulation, and talk to your broker, as not all insurance policies have coverage for damage caused by ice dams.
