FSIN calls on Prime Minister to appoint an Indigenous person as the next RCMP Commissioner

The Federation of Sovereign Indigenous Nations is sending a letter to the prime minister, demanding an Indigenous person be named as the new commissioner of the RCMP.

Commissioner Brenda Lucki announced she is stepping down, as of March 17th.

The FSIN says fewer than 6 percent of the sworn RCMP members are indigenous.

There are none at the executive level, and that includes the officer in charge of over-seeing police on 600 First Nation communities.
