More monitoring and testing for aquatic invasive species begins today at Riding Mountain National Park

Riding Mountain National Park announced that they will increase their monitoring and testing for aquatic invasive species in Clear Lake this winter.

Starting today (Mon), park staff will work with Fisheries and Oceans Canada and the province to increase tests, after a positive case of zebra mussels DNA was reported on January 23rd.

Visitors may see park staff conducting scientific monitoring on the ice of Clear Lake, while a temporary laboratory building will be set up on the shore at Boat Cove.

Staff note that zebra mussels have not been found inside Riding Mountain National Park.
