SGI gives 78,225 “reasons” to wear a seatbelt

The results are in for last month’s Traffic Safety Spotlight on seatbelt use.

Police across Saskatchewan issued 447 tickets, including 380 to drivers not wearing a seatbelt, 47 to passengers not wearing a seatbelt, and 20 to drivers for children not restrained in the correct booster or car seat.

SGI says each of those tickets cost 175 dollars, for a total of 78-thousand 225 dollars in fines handed out.

Police also issued 4-thousand 109 tickets for speeding and aggressive driving, 609 tickets for distracted driving, including 534 for cellphone use, and 369 impaired driving offences were reported, including 214 resulting in charges.
