Manitoba’s Spring Flood Outlook for March shows a major risk of flooding on the Red River, but low-to-moderate risk for most basins in the province.
The province’s Hydrologic Forecast Centre says the high risk on the Red River is due to recent precipitation events south of the U.S. border.
In addition to the low-to-moderate risk along the Assiniboine River, the risk for flooding is generally low for other rivers including the Souris, Roseau, Rat, and Pembina.
With the exceptions of Dauphin Lake and Lake St. Martin, most Manitoba lakes are projected to remain within operating ranges after the spring run-off.
However, all of that can change depending on weather conditions from now until the spring melt.
The province says ice-cutting and breaking work along the Red and Icelandic rivers is complete, while no work was done on the Assiniboine River due to a lower risk of ice-jam related flooding.
