New provincial funding will allow firefighter training at Parkland College’s training site, to resume in July.
A total investment of 1.8 million dollars in money from the province will support the program in 2023-24, with the largest portion – 1.33 million in one-time funding – coming from the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, for the purchase of training equipment.
The training centre in Melville will accommodate 18 to 24 students per cohort, for those looking to become professional firefighters.
The program had been offered in Melville until 2021, when it was forced to go on hiatus, in part due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
