An 11-year-old boy succumb to injuries sustained in a house fire on the Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation.

Virden RCMP received a report of a house fire Saturday night, and were advised that a child was believed to be still in the home.

The boy was pulled out of the burning home, but passed away in hospital. RCMP note of the 7 occupants in the home at the time, 4 adults and 3 children, the 11-year-old was the only one to sustain physical injuries.

A 65-year-old woman from the community was taken to hospital with serious injuries after with trying to get the boy out.

RCMP and the Office of the Fire Commissioner are investigating the cause of the fire.
