Decision on bail for two sisters who’ve spent nearly 30 years in prison for murder expected today

A judge at Yorkton Court of King’s Bench is expected to make a decision on whether two sisters should be given bail.

Odelia and Nerissa Quewezance were convicted of 2nd Degree Murder in the 1993 stabbing death of 70-year-old Anthony Dolff, and have been in prison since then. Both argue their convictions were wrongful.

The federal Justice Department began a review last year, and said there may be a reasonable basis to conclude there was a miscarriage of justice. That review remains ongoing.

The Crown prosecutor argued that even if there were issues with the police investigation, there was still enough evidence to show the sisters were involved in the killing.

James Lockyer, the sisters’ lawyer, has said the women are victims of racism in the justice system and false confessions.

A decision is expected to be delivered at 9 a.m. SK time.
