Saskatchewan Passes Firearms Act

The Firearms Act has been passed in Saskatchewan, which will enhance public safety and protect the rights of lawful firearms owners.

The act will establish licensing requirements for seizure agents involved in firearms expropriation, require fair compensation for any firearm being seized, and require forensic and ballistic testing of seized firearms.

The provincial government is also investing 8.9-million dollars to the Saskatchewan Firearms Office in the 2023/24 budget.

Part of the funding will be used to create a Central Management and Services Unit to administer the Firearms Act, which includes jurisdiction over the licensing, storage, transportation and carrying of firearms.
