Saskatchewan Government To End MOU With Federal Government

The Saskatchewan government has ended an agreement with the federal government.

As of September 30th, Saskatchewan will not hold immigration detainees for the Canadian Border Services Agency.

A memorandum of understanding was signed in 1994 that allowed the province to house people detained under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.

While Saskatchewan will no longer hold individuals solely on immigration matters, it will continue to hold non-Canadian citizens who have criminal charges until those matters have been concluded.
