Carlyle RCMP officer found not guilty of assault charge

A Carlyle RCMP officer, charged following an on-duty incident in October of 2020, is off the hook.

In Carlyle Provincial Court on Friday (Apr. 14), the judge found Constable Dani Zaya not guilty of Assault with a Weapon.

Saskatchewan RCMP charged Zaya, following an investigation into a complaint made to the Carlyle RCMP Detachment last year.

On October 31, 2020, Carlyle RCMP officers stopped a vehicle in Arcola, where a man in the vehicle was arrested by Constable Zaya, who allegedly used pepper spray during his interaction with the man.

A formal complaint was made in November of 2020, and Zaya was arrested in June of 2021.
