Local products selected in Thursday’s 2023 WHL Prospects Draft

The 22 member clubs of the Western Hockey League selected 2008-born players from across Western Canada & the US yesterday (Thurs) as the 2023 WHL Prospects Draft took place.

Locally, the first player taken was Hamiota’s Kaden Allen who went in the 2nd, 24th overall to the Spokane Chiefs.

Allen had 24 goals and 49 points in 34 games with the Yellowhead U15 AAA Chiefs this past season.

Swan River’s Trace Langan was the next local player to see his name selected as the Parkland Ranger went in the 6th round, 118th overall by the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Langan contributed 28 goals, 21 assists for 49 points this past year with Rangers.

Three Yorkton-born players were also selected on Thursday as Yorkton-born Benjamin Bowtell went in the 6th round to Saskatoon, while Yorkton PAC Terrier defenceman Cameron Allard went in the 8th round to Brandon, and his teammate Dylan Brass was selected in the 9th round, 198th overall by the Winnipeg Ice.

Winnipegosis Liam Chartrand was also picked in round 9 by the Medicine Hat Tigers.
