Changes To Saskatchewan’s Firearms Act Take Effect

To enhance public safety and protect the rights of lawful firearms owners, changes to Saskatchewan’s Firearms Act took effect today.

The new provisions that came into force includes establishing licensing requirements for seizure agents, establishing provincial firearms offences, allow the Minister to appoint a Firearms Compensation Committee, and allowing the designation and approval of firearms testing facilities.

Two additional provisions will come into effect in the future, including a requirement for payment for any expropriated firearm, and forensic and ballistic testing requirements for those firearms.
