2023 SJHL Draft is in the books

The Melville Millionaires selected Saskatoon product Preston Baerwald with #1 overall pick in yesterday’s 2023 SJHL Draft.

The 2007-born forward had 9 goals, 9 assists with 18 points this past season with the Saskatoon Blazers of the Sask. U18 AAA Hockey League.

Meanwhile the Yorkton Terriers, with the 3rd overall pick selected F Kierin Osberg from the Prairie Hockey Academy U17.

Osberg, a Moose Jaw product had 31 points in 33 games with PHA this past season.

The Terriers also selected defenceman Max Threinen, who hails from Langenburg, in the second round.

In the third round, the Mils picked Jordan Abrametz from Prince Albert, while Yorkton grabbed Aidan Vallance of Grand Coulee.

In the fourth round, the Terriers selected Ryder Woods, a forward from Swift Current, while Melville picked goaltender Taylor Tabaschniuk of Regina.

Defenceman Kaden Shumay of Martensville went to Melville in the fifth round, while Yorkton selected a goaltender in Lumsden’s Luke McKechnie.

In round six, Melville took forward Henry Thunderblanket of Gallivan, while Yorkton selected local product in forward Grady Keith.

In the 2008-born portion of the draft, the Mils had one selection, which they used on defenceman Kohen Volk of Saskatoon with 1st pick.

The Terriers had two selections, where they picked forward Boston Schmidt of Pilot Butte, and Cash Lanigan a forward from Regina
