CUPE 1904, which represents Yorkton Public Library workers, is dismayed about mayor Mitch Hippsley’s recent comments regarding the sale of the public library.
On Monday, city council voted to discontinue moving the public library to the Gallagher Centre, instructing city administration to find an alternative location to house the library.
Mayor Hippsley states that there is a good possibility that the library could be closed indefinitely, during the transition to a new location.
CUPE 1904 says any closure of the facility will have a devastating impact on their patrons, and they are calling for immediate and meaningful consultation with library workers and their union.
