The first ever potash mine in Manitoba opened its door today.
The facility at Harrowby, just west of Russell, is now in operation with the goal to mine 250-thousand tonnes of potash per year.
Potash and Agri-Development Corporation invested 12-million dollars into the project, of which the Gambler First Nation is a 20-percent equity partner.
The mine will be a carbon-neutral facility by injecting heated brine into the ground to dissolve potash to be extracted, rather than the traditional room and pillar method.
