Western Canadian Premiers Meeting In BC

Western Canadian Premiers are meeting in Whistler, British Columbia.

Manitoba premier Heather Stefanson is in attendance, and she is renewing her call on the federal government to reform the federal Criminal Code and justice system.

Building off of continued advocacy by Canadian premiers in January and April, Stefanson notes that proposed Criminal Code amendments have not been passed and further urgent action is required.

The Manitoba government is looking to add more prosecutors to combat gangs, gun, knife and other weapons-based violence, while also investing in social causes including mental health and addiction supports.
