Saskatchewan’s finances are strong, according to the provincial government.
A 1.58-billion dollar surplus was achieved at the end of the 2022/23 fiscal year, which allowed the province to pay down 1.5-billion dollars of its operating debt.
Revenue increases are largely due to high oil and potash prices, as well as higher Corporation Income Tax, Personal Income Tax, and Provincial Sales Tax revenue.
The surplus also represents a 3.05-billion dollar improvement from the prior year’s deficit of 1.47-billion dollars.
