Edmonton man fined more than $1.9 million for possession of illegal tobacco products

A massive fine for an Edmonton man charged in connection with the seizure of illegal tobacco products in Whitewood.

In Broadview yesterday (WED), 64-year-old Matthew Wright admitted to one count of Possession of Unstamped Tobacco, and was fined $1,919,940.

The remaining charges against him were stayed by the Crown Prosecutor.

On December 20th, a Highway Patrol Officer pulled over a commercial vehicle hauling a trailer, for inspection.

A subsequent search led to the seizure of the vehicle, which contained almost 29 thousand illegal cigars, and 6-point-6 million illegal cigarettes.
