Yorkton Tribal Council to receive 1.4 million dollars in federal funding for youth and community justice programs

The Yorkton Tribal Council’s Tribal Justice Unit will receive more than 1.4 million dollars from the federal government, to support programs for youth in conflict with the law.

Some of these programs include community justice forums, victim-offender mediations, and accountability meetings.

In addition, other correctional programs receiving support will focus on restorative justice and alternative measures, as well as crime prevention workshops and victims services.

Ottawa’s goal is to reduce victimization, crime and incarceration among Indigenous people in Saskatchewan, while encouraging the equal treament and full participation of First Nations people with in the nation’s justice system.
