Virden RCMP are investigating a murder on the Sioux Valley Dakota Nation

Virden RCMP have not released the name of a Sioux Valley Dakota Nation man killed late Saturday (Aug. 5) afternoon in a fatal shooting.

Shortly after 5 p.m. on Saturday, Mounties were called to the reserve, on a report that someone had been shot, and upon arrival, they found a 21-year-old man from the community had been shot.

He later died of his injuries in hospital.

Two Sioux Valley residents are in custody. 41-year-old Jeremy Blacksmith is charged with Second Degree Murder and weapon offences, while a 17-year-old boy, who can’t be identified due to his age, faces weapon charges.
