Yorkton is the latest community to launch free rapid counselling services to children, youth, and caregivers.
The launch is part of the 3.2 million annual funding from the Saskatchewan Government towards Family Services Saskatchewan.
Executive Director of Society for the Involvement of Good Neighbours Andrew Sedley says he is excited to be part of the expansion.
“It’s exciting for SIGN to be a part of this expansion of Rapid Access Counselling services through Family Service Saskatchewan, which now includes much-needed mental health support for children, youth, and caregivers,” said Sedley.
“This will not only provide timely and personalized counselling for children, but it will also assist the families of those with more complex needs to find services provided by others, including the Saskatchewan Heath Authority,” added Sedley.
Yorkton MLA Greg Ottenbreit was on hand for the announcement.
“Expanding free rapid counselling services to children and the youth is a step in the right direction to address the mental health issues that many young people face daily,” said Ottenbreit.
“Being able to connect young people with this access is critical for their well-being,” explained Ottenbreit.
Since May, counselling services have been launched in Regina, Saskatoon, Weyburn, Estevan, Carlyle, Oxbow and North Battleford, with additional communities will be announced shortly.
