A 25-year-old Red Earth Cree Nation man was killed, and an RCMP officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries during an altercation early Tuesday on the reserve, in which gunfire was exchanged.
Around 3:40 a.m. Mounties from the Carrot River detachment were called to a report of gunshots on the reserve, and when police responded, two individuals were quickly apprehended, though no charges have been laid against them at this time.
A third person that was identified as having been involved in the incident was found nearby, and when officers arrived at the scene, shots were fired at their vehicles.
The investigation continues, but police say an ensuing altercation led to gunfire being exchanged, and the 25-year-old man died at the scene, while the Mountie was injured.
