In the early hours of January 15, 2024, a vigilant Ste Rose RCMP officer on Highway 5 spotted a motorist changing a tire in bone-chilling -38°C weather, prompting a compassionate stop to assist. Upon approaching, the officer noted a lack of plates and discovered the lone male driver had no registration or valid license, raising suspicions.
The situation escalated as open alcohol was found, leading to the driver’s verbal arrest for lacking a license and possessing open liquor. The individual was then taken into custody for obstructing a peace officer by refusing to disclose his true identity. A subsequent vehicle search revealed Canadian currency, bags with a substance believed to be methamphetamine, prescription drugs, and gift cards.
The suspect, Clint Nepinak, 28, from Dauphin, was found with a bag of a substance believed to be cocaine, empty baggies, and multiple cell phones.
Attempting to fingerprint Nepinak in custody was hindered by injuries sustained while changing the tire, requiring hospital treatment. Further investigations exposed three outstanding warrants for his arrest, including Failure to Comply and Failure to Attend Court.
Nepinak now faces charges of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking and Obstruction of a Peace Officer, along with an open liquor ticket. Remanded in custody, he awaits legal proceedings, with authorities commending the RCMP officer for uncovering these illegal activities and ensuring community safety.
