GX94 Supper in the Field Winners – Week One

A week ago today we went out for our very first night of GX94 Supper in the Field for the Spring of 2024. A really cool thing about Supper in the Field is that we have generations calling in to try and win! The story we always hear from our listeners is, “I’ve been calling in for years! And I finally won!” That was the case for our week one winners, Kurtis and Meghan Kramer from Avonhurst, SK.

Kurtis & Meghan Kramer, and 3 out of 4 of their children.
The oldest had to go to dance.

When Danny Ismond found out who won Supper in the Field last Wednesday morning after we made the draw, those were his exact words. “I know that name, she’s the mom, and has been calling in for years entering in her daughter and son-in-law’s names.” After so many years, talking to our listeners when they call and text in, we get to know the names we are writing down, the voices we are hearing, and the stories that go with those names. It’s pretty cool.

Yes, Meghan’s mother texted in and entered her daughter and son-in-law for Supper in the Field. My boss, Brad, a few of our sales team, Keith & Devin, and myself, hit the road Wednesday afternoon to Avonhurst. We made our first stop at Tapps Sports Lounge and Grill in Yorkton. They are our food sponsor for the Spring Supper in the Field, and picked up the beverages too, provided by Great Western, a case of Original 16!

It was a beautiful afternoon for a drive to Avonhurst, SK. I got a text from my sister when we got there, saying, “You’re closer to me in Regina, than you are to Yorkton tonight!” That we were, Avonhurst is just on the other side of the valley, but basically in Regina’s backyard. Love it!

The Kramer’s farm was beautiful! So much space for their 4 kids to run around and play, an immaculate lawn and yard, and even chickens, and little pigs! The farm was originally owned by Kurtis’ grandfather. His dad took over the farm when he was 18, and this year will be his 47th crop. A few years ago Kurtis and Meghan took over, but his parents still play a big role in the farm working closely with Kurtis.

Kurtis and Meghan have 4 kids, one who actually had a birthday this week turning the big 6 years old. She told me she was going to have an opposite party, and explained to me how everything was going to be opposite. The mind of a child! I asked her what she wanted for her birthday, and she said, “Why, are you getting me a present?” Love it! Kids are the best. I just said, “I mean, what are you hoping to get from your parents?”

The Kramer’s had friends and family there for the supper. Tapps put on a great meal, sending perogies, sausage that melted in your mouth is was so good, macaroni salad, and carrot cake for dessert. We have a ton of sponsors on board this year and they all sent out so many great prizes for our winners. Big thank you to Gowan Canada, Farm Credit Canada, Yorkton Auction Centre, Maple AG & Outdoors, LDC, Milligan Bio, SaskMilk, Jump.ca, FFUN Motorsports Yorkton, Future Ford, Smith Steel and Legacy Co-op! There was so much swag for Kurtis and Meghan, I think they have a different ball cap, hoodie, and t-shirt they can wear for a week straight. And the kiddos got packages of yummy candy from the Co-op. (That’s not even mentioning the BIG prizes from the farm sponsors.)

And Meghan and Kurtis are the very first winners of our NEW GX94 Supper in the Field flag.

The Kramer kids have a super cool tree house that they were playing in. Kurtis told me it’s their COVID tree house. When COVID hit and they were finding things to do with the kids, he thought, “Well wood working class, lets build a treehouse.” The best part, they built it in a little wooded spot right by the house. Kurtis told me, most of the trees on the farm were planted by his dad. But the row of trees that the treehouse was built by were planted by his Grandfather. So the kids get to have a treehouse in a little forest their Great-grandfather planted. I love hearing stories like that.

It was a beautiful night, delicious food, tons of prizes, and great company! Thank you to the Kramer family for having us, and we look forward to seeing who will be our Week 2 Winners of GX94 Supper in the Field. Call or text today at 306-783-8622. Then be listening to Doug Falconer on Sask Ag Today tomorrow to find out where we are going tomorrow night.
