Jason McCoy is my Favourite!

Hanging with Jason McCoy & Jess Moskaluke backstage at Dauphin’s Countryfest – 2022

If you want to meet one of the most down-to-earth country artists, who has a story for everything, along with a joke, it’s Jason McCoy. Want to know a secret, and I’m rather embarrassed about this so I’ve definitely never told this on the air. Two summers ago we heard Jason McCoy would be the emcee at Dauphin’s Countryfest. Danny was really excited about that. I was like, cool! We are walking backstage to see what help he’d need from us, when Danny says something about the Road Hammers.

Backstage again with our Bestie (he just doesn’t know we are besties) Jason McCoy at Dauphin’s Countryfest 2023

Wait, what? Jason McCoy, the Road Hammers? Oh!!!!!! Yeah, I hadn’t clued in yet that he was the lead singer for the Road Hammers. I mean, I’ve just worked in Country radio for 15 years, why would I remember that tidbit of knowledge. Super embarrassing moment for me, but luckily only Danny got to hear my super clueless moment. Than I was really excited to meet him!

Since then, we have emceed twice at Dauphin’s Countryfest, I’ve interviewed 3 times now on GX94, and introduced him in Swan River last spring, and Friday night in Yorkton. Fun Fact about his concert in Swan. His drummer had just broken his arm the week before they went on the road. He was doing some spring cleaning, and fell off his ladder. But the guy was a champ. He literally didn’t miss a beat while they had the show on the road. He was all better when I saw him on Friday!

McCoy did the Midday Show with me for a good 30 minutes Friday morning, guessing what the Rib Tickler answer is, making fun of Danny Ismond (or more like admiring his deep radio voice when he was selling tickets for the Assiniboia Lottery!), and making predictions on the commodity update. He told stories about his home, and all of the wildlife on it, his daughter graduating, and what it will be like for him to see the country stars on the stage at this year’s Dauphin’s Countryfest, like Diamond Rio, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and Alabama.

Friday night at the Parkland Outdoor Show and Expo Country Kickoff Party was a ton of fun! I got to hang out backstage with Kates Outlaw and Jason McCoy. Kates Outlaw a country band of Dad’s! They are from Dauphin, and their entourage was made up of their kids and wives! It was so cute! They are all in their 30’s, living the dream with their families! I can’t wait to hear their music on GX94, and they will be at Dauphin’s Countryfest.

I snuck a few pictures of the dad’s of Kates Outlaw taking pictures of their kiddos with Doc Walker and Jason McCoy. That was a pretty cool moment. I mean there has to be some perks with having your Dad in a band, right?! I love seeing the things that go on backstage before a show.

As always, Jason McCoy rocked the stage at the Country Kickoff Party with Doc Walker Friday night. All three groups are at Dauphin’s Countryfest this year and you can get your tickets right now. countryfest.ca

Now what do you talk about off the air with a country star? Danny Ismond, and Jason McCoy’s teenage geese on his farm!
