The “Airwaves For Health” Radiothon is underway on Fox FM and GX94!

Reader here! it’s hard to believe a year has flown by, but the 2024 edition of the “Airwaves For Health” Radiothon is back on Fox FM and our sister station, GX94.

In 2023, we raised a record-breaking $343,232, and with your help, we’ll can set another record, as we team up to raise money for the purchase of medical equipment for the Yorkton Regional Health Centre, as well as for Suncrest College’s new sonography program, to train ultrasound technicians locally.

First thing this morning, Eddie and I were joined by Health Foundation Executive Director Ross Fisher, to chat about the goal of this year’s radiothon.

And throughout the morning, we were joined by a number of donors, who helped us kick things off on the right foot, including an amazing $50,000 donation by Mosaic Potash, presented by Dustin Maksymchuk, the general manager at Mosaic in Esterhazy.

Dustin Maksymchuk, G.M. at Mosaic Esterhazy joins the Fox FM Morning Show to make a major donation.

In addition, Dustin Brears made a major donation on behalf of Credence Construction, which hosted its third annual ice fishing derby in February, raising $14,000 toward the chemotherapy unit at the Yorkton Regional Health Centre.

As well, Churchbridge Credit Union CEO Ryan Tebbutt made a $10,000 presentation.

Thanks to Churchbridge Credit Union for their great donation!

As well, with the radiothon raising money for many different pieces of equipment, we heard from some of the medical professionals that get to see those tools in action.

Dr. Johann Roodt is the Physician Executive on the Executive Leadership Team of the Saskatchewan Health Authority, and has input into many of the decisions the SHA makes and is in a position to be an advocate for rural Saskatchewan.

And as always, Legacy Co-op is a major supporter of the Health Foundation and the Radiothon. General manager Harley McClughan detailed the Co-op’s contributions this year.

Harvest Meats is also a big supported of the Health Foundation, and Eddie caught up with Geoff Propp.

And Eddie also spoke to Sheri Krochak, who, as manager of the ICU, ER and Respiratory services, works closely with the Health Foundation.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, as Day One continues and there’ll be more to come on Day Two. But we’re off to a great start!

And don’t forget – there are other ways you can donate…

Stop by McDonald’s and get a cold beverage (cold brew, Smoothies, ice coffee and Shakes, but NOT pop!), and 10 cents from each one sold through the end of Tuesday will go to the Radiothon.

As well, 10 cents from the sale of every hot beverage at Tim Hortons through the end of tomorrow will also be donated to “Airwave for Health.”

Legacy Co-op will also be accepting donations to the Airwaves for Health Radiothon from now until April 30th. The Legacy Co-op is selling “Helping Hearts” for $2, $5, or $10 at any Legacy Co-op Food Store or C-store, and Legacy Co-op will match your purchase!
