Prison Time For Melfort Man Who Killed Two People, Seriously Injured a Third

A new development in the case of a Melfort man, charged in connection with a fatal shooting on the James Smith Cree Nation.

35-year-old Shawn Moostoos was in Melfort Court yesterday (Mon), where he pleaded guilty to two counts of Second Degree Murder, and one count of Attempted Murder.

He was sentenced to life in prison, with no chance of parole for sixteen years.  

RCMP say in September of 2021, a 37-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were killed during an altercation at a home on the reserve.

A 44-year-old man was sent to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
