Local products named to Team Saskatchewan for 2024 WHL Cup

Twenty players from across Saskatchewan have been chosen to represent their province at the 2024 WHL Cup set to take place in Red Deer, Alta., from October 22 to 27, 2024.

The final roster boasts two goaltenders, six defensemen, and 12 forwards, carefully selected from every corner of the province.

Among the local talent includes Yorkton’s Aiden Wagner Sturgis’ Trae Peterson, Melville Millionaires’ prospect Hudson Postnikoff, and local Mitch Topinka stepping up as Assistant Coach.

“This journey began at the Male Under-15 regional camps last December, with a focus on identifying and nurturing Saskatchewan’s best young talent,” shared Joel Houseman, Director of Operations for Sask First. “Through a rigorous selection process and intense training camps, we’ve seen these players develop into a cohesive unit. The WHL Cup is the pinnacle of our 2023-24 Sask First program, and we’re excited to showcase the growth and potential of these U16 athletes as they represent Saskatchewan with pride in Red Deer.”

Competing at the WHL Cup, Team Saskatchewan will take on provincial teams from Alberta, Manitoba, and British Columbia, providing a golden opportunity for 2009-born players to impress scouts from junior leagues.

Mark your calendars! Team Saskatchewan kicks off their event on October 23rd against Team Alberta.
