Concerns over an increasing number of deer in town prompted Esterhazy Town Council to pass a motion to establish a wildlife bylaw.
Councillor Martin Pfeifer raised the issue at the February 27 meeting, citing the risks of attracting more coyotes and the potential spread of mange. He proposed a bylaw discouraging residents from feeding wildlife, modeled after one in Val Marie that imposes fines for such activity.
Council debated enforcement challenges, with some members questioning the feasibility of monitoring and penalizing offenders. Despite concerns, the motion to implement the bylaw next year was approved with four votes in favor.
