A former employee of the Municipality of Gilbert Plains, charged with fraud and theft, has appeared in court again.
40-year-old Amber Fisher was in Dauphin Provincial Court yesterday (Mon), where she had her matters adjourned to May 13.
Fisher, who was the former Chief Administrative Officer of the Municipality, had been under investigation since 2022, after a fraud complaint was made to the Manitoba RCMP and Financial Crime Unit.
The complaint alleged that Fisher had defrauded the Municipality of upwards of 500-thousand dollars while employed there
As a resident of the community that lost this money, I find it very concerning that it is taking so long and our current council has proposed that we may be paying a theft and deficit levy back over 7 years in the amount of 2.2 million less the 400,000 insurance proceeds. I just wish there was full transparency on what happened. We were in shock over losing 500,000 and now Council saying it cost us 2.2 million….doesn’t sit well. What is the truth of what happened. Hopefully getting to the court stage we will find out what really happened.
