
The 2025 edition of the Western Hockey League Prospects Draft has come & gone and three local players were selected.
First off on Wednesday, 15 year old forward and Waywayseecappo First Nation product Athens Shingoose was selected in the first round, 16th overall by the Prince Albert Raiders.
The 5-foot-6, 128-pound forward had 31 goals and 60 points in 32 games playing U15 in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, and then added another four goals and five points in three games with the U17 AAA Rink Academy team.
Then on Thursday, Yorkton product Mahlon Wiley was picked up in the fourth round, 89th overall by the Regina Pats. Wiley compiled 22 goals, 19 assists for 41 points in 24 games with the Sask East Oilers Under-15 AA, while also adding 15 points in 7 playoff games.
Then finally, Wiley’s Oiler teammate and Yorkton product Dylan Veroba was scooped up by the Kelowna Rockets in round number eight, 159th overall. The defenceman had 18 goals and 35 points in 26 games this past season.
