
It was a special moment on Wednesday night for Waywayseecappo First Nation’s Athens Shingoose.
The 15 year old forward was selected during the first round of the 2025 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft, 16th overall to the Prince Albert Raiders.
The 5-foot-6, 128-pound forward had 31 goals and 60 points in 32 games playing U15 in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League, and then added another four goals and five points in three games with the U17 AAA Rink Academy team.
The WHL Prospects Draft resumes at the conclusion of the U.S. Priority Draft on Thursday morning, with the Priority Draft beginning at 9 a.m. You can follow along with all the picks from both drafts at www.whl.ca.
