Guess what? This year, I’ve officially doubled the number of books I read last year! Okay, so that means I’ve read two books, but hey, progress is progress, right? My latest was The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner by Stephanie Meyer. It’s technically a novella, so maybe it’s more like 1.5 books, but every little win counts!
Even more exciting? I finished Bree Tanner’s story in just one afternoon! I kicked off at 3 PM and by 7 PM, I was closing the book with tears running down my face. The story flowed so smoothly without any chapters or breaks that I just couldn’t put it down. It was like being swept back into the Twilight universe, a place I loved in my teen years but never fully seen through a different character besides Bella until now.
At first, I’ll admit, I found Bree a bit annoying, just a side character in the Twilight saga. But getting to know her story, I realized she was going through so much more than I ever imagined. And just as I was finishing the book, Joni Mitchell’s “Both Sides Now” started playing, (because I like to listen to my records while I read) and I found myself tearing up over Bree’s fate, even though I knew it was coming. It was beautiful and sad at the same time, I was a wreck.
So, if you’re a fan of the Twilight series or even just enjoyed the movies, I highly recommend giving The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner a read. Stephenie Meyer did a fantastic job bringing Bree’s story to life. Find a cozy spot, grab some tissues, and dive into this emotional vampire story. You’ll be glad you did!
