There’s nothing quite like the beauty of our prairie sky. On a clear day, it stretches out in every direction—a vast, endless canvas painted with the brightest blues and the softest golds. At sunset, fiery oranges and pinks ripple across the horizon, filling us with a sense of peace and wonder unique to these open spaces.
The prairie sky is more than a view—it’s a feeling, a reminder of the freedom and expanse we’re lucky to call home.
But lately, even as we marvel at the beauty overhead, a shadow lingers in our thoughts. In Northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba, wildfires rage with an intensity that’s impossible to ignore. The smoke drifts south, sometimes turning our skies a hazy gray, a visible reminder of the crisis burning on our doorstep. With each new season, these fires seem fiercer, more frequent, and more devastating.
The prairie sky we love is the same sky clouded by the consequences of a warming planet. It’s easy to feel helpless in this situation as we watch our beautiful provinces burn. Manitoba had their Day of Caring last week and today is Saskatchewan’s Day of Caring. You can donate to the Saskatchewan Wildfire Appeal and to the Manitoba Wildfire Appeal all through the Red Cross.
