Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck brought a strong economic message to Yorkton Friday, pledging to create good-paying jobs and attract investment across the province.
Beck, joined by nearly the entire 27-member NDP Caucus, met with local leaders to discuss key issues including the economy, healthcare, education, and public safety.
She emphasized the need for infrastructure investments—particularly in power, pipelines, and rail lines—to boost Saskatchewan’s economy and reduce reliance on the U.S.
Beck criticized the provincial government’s recent decision to remove trade countermeasures against Donald Trump following his 50 per cent tariff on Saskatchewan steel, calling it a move that will hurt local jobs.
She also urged Prime Minister Mark Carney to push for the removal of Chinese tariffs on agricultural exports, noting the damage they cause to agribusiness hubs like Yorkton.
The NDP team is continuing its community outreach in the city throughout the day.
