Blue recycle bins will soon be delivered to every doorstep in Yorkton as part of a new citywide waste management initiative.
At last night’s city council meeting, councillors voted unanimously in favour of launching the Blue Cart Recycling Program. The move aims to streamline and improve recycling collection services across the city.
The total cost of the bins is $620,000, which will be fully covered through the city’s recycling reserves. This approach allows the city to maintain the current $21.00 monthly waste collection fee for residents. That fee covers garbage, organics, and now recycling pick-up—providing a full-service waste solution without an increase to household bills.
Blue bins are expected to be delivered to residents in October, with biweekly recycling collection scheduled to begin in November. City officials say the program is part of a broader effort to make waste disposal more efficient and environmentally responsible for Yorkton households.
