Okay, I’ll admit it…I’ve fallen behind on Marvel! For someone who likes to call myself a Marvel fan, it’s a little embarrassing to say the last thing I watched was Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After that, life just got busy, and before I knew it, a year and a half had flown by with the MCU moving full speed ahead without me.
If you’re a Marvel fan too, you know exactly what I mean. If you want to really keep up with the stories and understand all the characters popping up everywhere, you have to stay on top of every movie and show. Honestly, I think I just needed a break. There’s been so much Marvel content lately that I got a little burnt out.
But good news: I’m officially back on my Marvel marathon! I’m picking up right where I left 0ff and am watching everything in release order. My first stop? Secret Invasion. Spoilers incoming!
Let’s talk about it. I’ll be honest, I was a little bummed when they killed off one of my favorite characters, Maria Hill, in the very first episode, but wow, Samuel L. Jackson absolutely nailed it, as always, as Nick Fury. Kingsley Ben-Adir was outstanding as Gravik. It’s wild to think I just saw him in the Barbie movie playing such a totally different character. The guy’s got some serious range! And shoutout to Don Cheadle, he had to play Rhodey AND a Skrull pretending to be Rhodey, which is no small feat. Oh, and I can’t forget Olivia Colman. I absolutely love her, and she’s fantastic in every single role she takes on.
All in all, Secret Invasion was pretty good! I thought it dragged a bit in places, but I loved that we got to learn more about the Skrulls. I’d give it a solid 7/10.
Next up was I Am Groot Season 2. These shorts are adorable! Little Groot is just the cutest, and I honestly wish they’d make even more seasons. 11/10 from me. No notes.
Right now, I’m almost finished with Loki Season 2. I’m having a lot of fun with it so far, though I think Season 1 is still my favourite. I have to say, Ke Huy Quan as Ouroboros is such a fun addition to the cast! I’m not quite ready to give it a rating yet since I haven’t finished, but I’m definitely enjoying the ride.
In short, it feels really nice to be back in the MCU world again. Here’s hoping the shows and movies keep being this good! Next on my list is The Marvels, so stay tuned, I’ll share my thoughts once I’ve watched it. If you’ve also taken a Marvel break or you’re catching up, let’s chat in the comments! What should I make sure not to miss on my Marvel rediscovery?
