It’s grad day at Benny Walchuk’s old high school in Melville, and mine here in Yorkton. Of course he had fun making me feel old! (Not that I don’t deserve it, considering how much I tease Danny Ismond about “the good old days.”) But seriously—21 years since my own graduation! Where did the time go?
To really seal the deal, I actually found my grad picture. Yep, the full-on, awkward, early-2000s look. (Actually no, grad photo day I was, for once, feeling pretty). Since Nick Kaczmar and Benny Walchuk have been brave enough to share their grad pics over the years, I guess it’s only fair I join the club. We were total babies! It’s wild how all those classic things you hear about getting older turn out to be true.
At every stage—especially when you’re graduating—you’re sure you know everything. But the more years go by, the more you realize how much you DON’T know. Life has a funny way of humbling you and reminding you that we’re all just figuring things out as we go. All through my 20’s I was convinced when I turned 30 years old I would have all of my s#%^ together, and be really smart. HA! That was a shock when I had neither of those things going for me.
At least as I approach 40 I am fully aware that I know nothing, am completely struggling with everything in life, and just trying to survive each day as it comes. I have a feeling though, Benny Walchuk is a little more positive about things. Probably cause he’s STILL a baby! Graduating in 2010, pheff!! That’s the year I got married!
So here’s to the grads, sorry guys, life just get harder and harder. But it does get better than highschool I will say that.
