Now after talking to Dean I was able to track down a blog of a person that keeps exquisite records of Wheel of Fortune episodes and indeed Dean and his partner lead the episode until the final puzzle where consonants were worth 6k a piece and Julie Roberts duo ended up winning 18 thousand dollars on a single puzzle. The answer to the final puzzle was ‘overnight sensation’ and I find it very amusing that Dean still has very distinct memories of this nearly 20 years later.
